PHASE I - COURSES

Economic Analysis
This course is designed to familiarize students with concepts and analytical tools from micro-economic theory, which will be useful for managers in making decisions at firm level.

Economic Environment and Policy I and II



These courses expose students to the basic concepts of the macro economic theory and make them aware of the Indian economic environment, the policy and planning framework underlying the Indian economic systems. A focus on cross-country comparisions helps students comprehend government policy decisions and understanding their implications on organizations and industry.

Finance I and II
The focus of these courses is on the understanding of techniques and concepts and in showing their applications to simple financial decision making situations.

Human Resources Management
This course exposes students to the critical tasks and functions of human resources management (HRM), dynamics and processes of labour management relations, relevant tools and techniques to internalize the critical functions of HRM.

Introduction to Computers
In this course students are introduced to end-user computing. This course also helps build their skills in using electronic spreadsheet to support the processes of decision making and in designing and developing computer programmes.

Macro Organizational Behaviour
The main objective of the course is to familiarize students with concepts such as structures, processes, and environments of organizations. The focus is on understanding the concepts, theories, and practices of organizations in general and Indian organizations in particular.

Micro Organizational Behaviour
The main objective of this course is to help students understand why people in an organization behave the way they do. This course deals mainly with theories and concepts related to issues of human behaviour.

Management Information Systems
This course equips students with skills to analyze information requirements for managerial decision making. It uses information technology in the development of systems and equips students to develop prototype systems using end user database software.

Managerial Accounting and Control I and II
These courses are designed with a view to impart an understanding of the basics of financial accounting, cost systems, cost analysis and operational control. Students are exposed to the language of accounting and to the processes adopted by organizations in recording financial transactions. These courses also include discussions in use of accounting information for evaluation and decision making.

Marketing I and II
These courses evolve around the concept of marketing mix, it also develops the basic analytical skills, conceptual abilities, and substantive knowledge in marketing in a variety of real life marketing situations.

Operations Management I and II
These courses develop integrative perspectives of the operations management function by helping students learn systems for managing operations and analyze issues pertaining to management of productivity, manufacturing and technology management.

Quantitative Methods I, II and III
These courses help students understand and formulate managerial situations in a “decision-theoretic” framework. They build in them analytical skills to interpret and analyze data relevant for resolution of decisions in functional areas of management, and also develops skills in managerial decision making under uncertainty.

Strategy Formulation and Implementation I
This course conveys the concept of strategy and its usefulness by exposing students to a variety of organizational situations. It enables students to look at organizations in their totality and appreciate the interrelationship among different functions.

Written Analysis and Communication
This course helps sharpen skills of analysis, synthesis, and communication in managerial decision-making situations. It develops skills and abilities for situational thinking and problem solving through logical analysis of case situations, and emphasizes written reports.

PHASE II

FPM Core Courses

Communication for Management Teachers
This course examines communication aspects in academic situations (teaching, writing, and administration) and improves communication skills. Seminars based on writing and oral exercises, preparation of materials, presentations, discussions, and readings are an integral part of this course.

Research Methods
The objective of the course is to provide a broad understanding of the theoretical and methodological issues involved in conducting systematic inquiry in the field of management. The course helps participants acquire the skills necessary in undertaking dissertation related research.

Statistical Methods in Data Analysis
This course builds quantitative skills in data analysis. Various statistical models in parametric and nonparametric situations are discussed.

Strategy Formulation and Implementation II
This course builds on the concepts and frameworks discussed in Strategy Formulation and Implementation I. The objectives of this course are to provide an integrated and comprehensive view of all functional areas of management, identify and analyze the determinants of and processes in formulation and implementation of corporate strategy, develop skills in formulating and implementing integrated strategies for growth and change, provide an exposure to the nature of strategic management in different types of organizations, and sensitize participants to the current issues in the practice of strategic management in India and abroad.
