- ELIGIBILITY
- For Post Graduate Programmes
in Management:
For all IIMs, the minimum eligibility criterion
for admission to PGP:
The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste
(SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Persons with Disability (PWD) category], of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature
in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956,
or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification obtained
by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. The basis of
computing the percentage obtained by the candidate in the Bachelor's degree would be based on the practice followed by the university/ institution from
where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case of the candidates being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based
on the equivalence certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained Bachelor's degree. In case the university/ institution does not have
any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by the IIMs by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum
possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant with 100.
Candidates appearing for the final Bachelor's degree / equivalent qualification examination can also apply. Such candidates must produce a certificate
from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/Director of the university/ institution certifying that the candidate has obtained 50% marks or equivalent
(45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) based on latest available grades/marks. Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join
the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2007 from the Principal/Registrar of their college/institute (issued on or
before June 30, 2007) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the results may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the Bachelor's degree/
equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheet and a certificate
of having passed the Bachelor's degree / equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the Principal/Registrar, with at least 50% marks
(45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category). The deadline for submission of the mark sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2007.
Non-fulfilment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission. IIMs would not allow any candidate to join their
programme in case the candidate is unable to complete all the requirements for a bachelor degree on or before June 30, 2007. The IIMs would also not offer
admission to any candidate after June 30, 2007.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES
This box provides information about frequently asked questions and queries about submission of CAT 2006 application
forms. It also spells out the processes followed by IIMs up to Common Admission Test (CAT) and issue of CAT score card. It
is therefore, important for the candidates to read this box carefully.
1. CAT Bulletins and Application forms are sold or sent only to the candidates, who are interested in appearing for CAT 2006 and are applying to one of
the programmes of IIMs. The CAT bulletin and Application form sold or sent to one person cannot be used by someone else for applying to IIMs. CAT
Bulletins and Application forms once sold would not be bought back by the bank/ post offices or by the IIMs. The CAT bulletin can be perused or
downloaded from the web-sites of IIMs.
2. CAT Bulletin has considerable information on how to fill up the form. Please read the bulletin carefully before filling-in the form. The candidates should
ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria of the programme(s) which they have applied for, that the form is complete in all respects and that they have
read the checklist in the CAT bulletin before forwarding the application to the concerned IIM.
3. A candidate can check the information related to the admission process from the websites of IIMs at different stages - (a) whether the application form
has been received, (b) whether the application form is complete in all respects, (c) Allotted test registration number and the CAT venue where a
candidate will appear for CAT 2006, (d) CAT 2006 scores, (e) whether the candidate has been short listed for Group Discussions and Personal Interview,
and (f) whether the candidate has been offered admission. Therefore, the candidates are advised to retain the web-site addresses of the IIM where the
candidate has sent the application form and of all IIMs where the candidate has applied for. The web-site addresses are given in this advertisement.
4. While CAT bulletin and web-sites provide most of the information, a candidate may still have queries about filling the application form. In case a
candidate needs further assistance, he/she can call up the concerned IIM. An interactive voice response system (IVRS) would help in resolving the
queries. The telephone numbers given in this advertisement would allow the candidate to access this system. Please note that the IVRS provides
answers to common queries related to admission process and IIMs are not responsible for any misunderstanding created by the IVRS in the mind
of any candidate. IIMs, however, own up the responsibility for written responses to queries raised through e-mail/ letters/fax, for which addresses have
been provided in this advertisement.
5. In case a candidate has any special query which cannot be addressed to by the IVRS or the CAT Bulletin, the candidate can write to the admission office
of the concerned IIM quoting the application number before receipt of admit card and test registration number after receipt of admit card. The candidate
must retain a photocopy of filled-in application form and the admit card as long as the candidate remain interested in the admission process of the IIMs.
6. In case the candidate chooses to write to any IIM, he/she may send an e-mail or may use any other mode of written communication. Please note that
no IIM official will directly answer to queries of the candidates over phone.
7. The candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST/PWD categories are requested to indicate their status while filling their form and enclose supporting document
as a proof that they belong to the specified categories. Please note that no change in category would be allowed after the last date of receipt of
application form. In the absence of any supporting document or inappropriate supporting document, the candidates having paid full fees for CAT Bulletin
would be treated as candidates belonging to general category. The applications from candidates who had only paid half the fee for CAT bulletin but who
do not submit any supporting document or who submit inappropriate supporting document, would be rejected.
8. In case an application is found defective, it would be possible for the candidates on October 1-2, 2006 to check the nature of the defect in the application
form on the web-site of the IIM to which they had sent their applications. In case, a candidate is interested in rectifying the defect, he/she would have
to buy a new form available at each IIM for this purpose and complete the application form on or before October 5, 2006 by being physically present
at the IIM to which he/she had sent his/her application form. Any incomplete application after this date would be automatically rejected. Note that the
defect in application means defect in filling the application form and also defect in documents, that forms part of the application form.
9. The admit cards of the eligible candidates, whose applications are complete would be sent after October 12, 2006. The candidates who do not receive
the admit cards by November 3, 2006 should immediately write to the concerned IIM quoting their application number.
10. On the day of the test, candidates should plan to reach the test venue by 9:45 AM. Please note that no candidate would be allowed to enter the venue after

for the test and all other articles would have to be left outside the test hall at candidate's own risk.
11. The candidates should fill up the form and appear at the CAT 2006 written test to be eligible for the programmes of IIMs. Any attempt to impersonate
during the test or while filling up the form not only would lead to immediate and automatic disqualification from the admission process of IIMs but may
also lead to prosecution. Please note that detection of such malpractice at any stage including after obtaining admission to any IIM would lead to
immediate and automatic disqualification or expulsion.
12. The score card details of all the valid candidates, who appeared in CAT 2006, would be available on the web-sites of IIMs on 2nd January, 2007. Subsequently,
it would be dispatched to all the candidates. While adequate care is taken in ensuring that there are no mistakes in reading the answer sheet by the machine,
there is no provision of revaluation of the answer sheet of any candidate. The candidates should ensure that they have read section 3 of the CAT Bulletin
carefully regarding the precautions to be taken while answering the questions.

1. Common Admission Test conducted by IIMs is an important input in the admission process and is primarily the basis of short listing candidates for the second
round of admission process which is based on group discussions and personal interviews. The candidates should note that it is important for them to
perform well relative to other candidates in each of the three sections of the test as the scores of each section and the overall score are used to short
list the candidates for the second round and may also be used for final ranking as well. In addition to the performance in CAT, IIMs may use academic
performance, relevant work experience and other similar inputs for ranking and short listing the candidates for group discussions and personal interviews.
2. Please note that each IIM short lists the candidates for Group Discussions and Personal Interviews independent of other IIMs. Hence it is possible to
observe variations in the list of candidates short listed by different IIMs. For more details, candidates are advised to read carefully the admission
process related information of each IIM, as given in section 4 of the CAT bulletin and on the web-sites of respective IIMs.
3. Each IIM will upload the list of short-listed candidates in its website on January 2, 2007. A candidate may view the dates and venue of the group discussion
and interview (GD&PI) schedule. Subsequently, a formal letter would be sent to all short listed candidates. GD&PI are conducted by each IIM separately
and hence it is possible that a candidate may be asked by two or more IIMs to attend GD&PI on the same date and time. In such a case, a candidate may
write to all the IIMs (except the one whose GD&PI a candidate would like to attend on the scheduled date) to reschedule the interview date/time, he/she
plans to attend. Similar requests can also be made in case of other emergencies. However, it is the discretion of the IIM concerned, to accept such a request.
4. After the GD&PI round, the offers are made by IIMs to successful candidates. The basis of ranking and finally selecting the successful candidates is based
on a diverse set of attributes and may include performance in CAT, performance in GD&PI, academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements,
work experience etc. The weights given to each of these attributes may vary across IIMs as the admission process of each IIM, subsequent to CAT is independent.
5. The disclosure of information about the admission process at IIMs is driven by three concerns, which at times conflict with each other. On one hand,
the IIMs would like the admission process to be transparent. On the other, however, IIMs wish to protect the privacy of individual candidates and
confidentiality of the process to prevent abuse. Based on these considerations, the performance of an individual is not made available to any other
candidate. Similarly, the performance of candidates in GD&PI including assessment of attributes mentioned under paragraph 4 of this box and the
weights of attributes used in the selection process are not disclosed to anyone to prevent exercise of undue pressure on the panelist participating
in the admission/ selection process. To ensure that the resultant lack of transparency does not in any way affect the candidates negatively, adequate
care is taken in formation of panel, development of objective criteria for assessment, random allocation of candidates to a panel and other such measures.
6. The candidates who appeared in GD&PI of an IIM would be able to view whether they have been offered admission by visiting the web-site of the IIM on
April 12, 2007. Subsequently, a formal letter would be sent to all successful candidates. The candidates who are offered admission need to confirm their
acceptance by completing all the required formalities by April 30, 2007. Some of the students who appeared in GD&PI of an IIM may also be placed on
waiting list initially on April 12, 2007. The offers to candidates on the wait list would depend upon the number of successful candidates accepting the
offer made by an IIM.
