The introduction of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) receives immense notice for its relevance for the success and sustenance of delivering quality education to the population who are the present and future of our country, but, for many socio economic reasons large percentage of the population are not able to pursue or complete their higher education.

We understand the fact that the designing and execution of the ICT platform must be done carefully and through experts, so that it does not get limited to being just another channel of information delivery, but facilitate in creating a knowledge network of students, teachers, researchers, industry and all different stakeholders enabling valuable interaction and quality discussion among them. More importantly, the ICT platform must also enable questioning, reflection, peer-discussion (among the respective knowledge seekers and providers) and add value to the learning, training and development of the learners in terms of the high degree of marketability of their acquired skills ensuing better career opportunities.

Keeping in mind the vision and mission of our Project 'Proof-of-Concept Exercise for Planning E-Literacy Program for Mission on Literacy Using ICT', the main aims of our project are:
  • To develop a checklist of Critical Success Factors for successful implementation of ICT and eLearning tools in education and sustenance of the usage of such tools in teaching and learning processes across educational Institutes of India.
  • Impact analysis of eLearning/ICT intervention and assess its effectiveness in improving the learning outcomes.

Work Completed
We conducted pilot studies (Phase I, II, III) on available sample of mathematics teachers teaching in 40 engineering colleges governed by GTU, who attended technical teachers' development and training programme, jointly organized in 2009 by the CDEEP CEP and the Gujarat Technical University at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The findings of the study have highlighted the necessity to investigate the effectiveness of the long term goal of teacher empowerment and development as envisaged in the national mission project and to evaluate the impact of the training programme in bringing changes in their traditional teaching methodology Future Work-Plan
