The Centre for Electronic Governance (CEG) was set up at the
Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) in October
1999 for initial phase of three years, with the support of four leading IT companies:
Oracle India Pvt. Ltd.,
HP (formerly Compaq) India Pvt. Ltd., SCO India and CMC Ltd.
The main objectives of CEG include Identification of e-Governance applications, Developing prototype applications to demonstrate the feasibility of e-Governance in India, Creating knowledge products (best practice cases, frameworks, toolkits), and Training and dissemination of knowledge of e-Governance. While realizing its objectives, CEG has worked with the Central and State governments, as well as international agencies like the World Bank and the Asia Foundation.
Based on the success achieved by CEG in the initial seeding
period, IIMA decided to continue the activities of CEG further,
with its own resources, for three more years. Currently, CEG is focusing on its knowledge dissemination activities and is in the process of developing its portal as a knowledge resource on e-Governance in India.
