Workshop on Impact Assessment of e-Governance Projects

Nov 19-20, 2008

The workshop was jointly organized by the Department of Information Technology (DIT) and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) with the objective of sharing the findings and learning from an impact assessment study of three national and 36 state-level e-government projects carried out by the DIT under the guidance of IIMA. The two-day workshop was held at IIMA, and was attended by 68 participants. These included senior officials from state governments and the Government of India, academicians, and representatives of market research agencies that had been involved in the impact assessment study.

Workshop on Building Capacity for Impact Assessment

A two day workshop was conducted by IIM, Ahmedabad as a part of the Department of IT (DIT) sponsored project titled 'A Study of the Impact of ICT Applications in the Public Sector in Developing Countries'. DIT has empanelled agencies in order to carry out summary assessments of e-government projects at the Central, State and Local Government levels across India. The objective of the workshop was to build capacity for impact assessment amongst different agencies/institutions that may engage in carrying out these impact assessment studies. In addition, the workshop also helped to define the next steps in the evolving program for impact assessment under the umbrella of the National E-Government Plan, which is an initiative of the Government of India for ushering in e-Governance.

Programme on Planning and Implementation of Information Systems for Electronic Governance (APCIO-7)

The overall objective of the programme is to prepare the participants to play a leadership role in the planning and implementation of information systems projects in the governance of the state. Participants include senior officials of government of Andhra Pradesh and other states and countries with experience in managing government and public systems, and with a strong motivation to introduce e-governance in their respective fields of work.

Sixth Programme for Andhra Pradesh Chief Information Officers (APCIO-6)

Mar 2006

The Sixth Programme on 'Planning and Implementation of Information Systems for Electronic Governance' for the CIOs of AP Government was conducted from 6th March 2006 to 20th May 2006. The thirty participants in the programme included senior officials identified by the government of AP.

Fifth Programme for Andhra Pradesh Chief Information Officers (APCIO-5)

Feb 2005

The fifth Programme on 'Planning and Implementation of Information Systems for Electronic Governance' for the CIOs of AP Government commenced on February 16, 2005 and concluded on May 7, 2005. The structure of this programme is similar to that of APCIO-4. The thirty participants in the programme include senior officials identified by the governments of AP, Punjab, and Limpopo Provincial Administration (Republic of South Africa). Workshop on Scaling up Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Poverty Alleviation in India
Feb 2004

This two-day workshop was organized at the Kasturbhai Lalbhai Management Development Centre (KLMDC), Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) for designing a 'Social e-Applications Venture Fund' that would support ICT for development initiatives across India. The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Subhash Bhatnagar (IIMA) and Dr. Robert Schware (World Bank, Washington DC).

Fourth Programme for Andhra Pradesh Chief Information Officers (APCIO-4)

The Programme on 'Planning and Implementation of Information Systems for Electronic Governance' for the CIOs (Chief Information Officers) of Andhra Pradesh is an outcome of the desire of the state government to have a unique programme to sensitise key government officials with Information Technology (IT), so that they could harness better outputs from IT related investments in their respective departments. This programme was attended by 30 Officers.

Third Programme for APCIOs (APCIO-3)
Apr 2003

The third APCIO programme was offered with an objective to prepare the participants to play a leadership role in the planning and implementation of e-Governance projects across the state of Andhra Pradesh. The first seven weeks of this programme included in-class modules and the last four weeks were meant for project work to consolidate the learning from in-class modules. Twenty-nine Officers attended the APCIO-3 programme.

Second Programme for APCIOs (APCIO-2)
Sep 2002

The second programme for APCIOs was attended by 27 Officers. Based on the learnings of the first programme for CIOs, the Government of Andhra Pradesh and IIMA redesigned the course as a twelve-week programme comprising of two weeks at the IIM campus in Ahmedabad followed by ten weeks at Hyderabad.

Programme for Hospital Administrators/Managers

Dec 2001

The programme on 'E-Governance for Municipal Hospitals' was held for hospital administrators/ managers from private and government hospitals, and deans of medical colleges at KLMDC, IIMA. About forty-five participants attended this five-day programme, which was coordinated by Prof. K.V. Ramani.

Programme on Managing Information Technology & e-Governance for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officers

A one-week programme discussing how E-Governance applications can be identified, designed and implemented had been organised for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers at KLMDC, IIMA. The objective of the programme was to provide inputs to the participants to enable them identify high impact IT applications in the government and implement these applications successfully. The programme was coordinated by Prof. K V Ramani and was sponsored by the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India.

Workshop on Dairy Information Services Kiosk (DISK) and Dairy Portal

May 2001

The objective of the workshop was to demonstrate the use of the DISK software and the Dairy portal to the executives of Dairy unions, officials of the dairy co-operative societies in Gujarat and senior representatives of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The interactive workshop had active participation from both the technical departments of the Unions, and grass-root society workers. Society workers of the village Uttarsanda - the pilot site for DISK- also shared their experiences and concerns.

Programme for CIOs of Andhra Pradesh Government (APCIO) 

Jul 2000

The first programme for CIOs was designed and conducted by Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) in 2000. The programme was divided into three modules. The first module was conducted at IIMA from July 10, 2000 onwards. The content of this one-month module focused on E-Governance applications, understanding IT and systems analysis and design. The e-Governance activities of IIMA and other e-Governance projects from the country were showcased during the discussions. The next module, which involved project implementation, was held at Satyam School of Learning, Hyderabad. The third and the final module dealing with integration issues and advanced topics in IT was held again at IIMA. Some of the participants of this programme later on became the crusaders for making their departments pro-IT and ensuring better delivery of services to citizens.

National Information Network Workshops

Mar - May 2000

The Vision 2010 statement of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) envisages increase in milk procurement from 15% to 36% on a national level. As a step in this direction, workshops were held for the management cadre of Dairy Unions in Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Bangalore, Jaipur, Mumbai, Chennai, Lucknow, Bhopal, Pune, Mysore, Chandigarh and Vadodara and conducted by CEG faculty members – Prof. S C Bhatnagar and Prof. T.P Rama Rao. across the country. The workshops brought out the critical success factors for the efficient management of dairy co-operative unions, and sensitized the management about the role of information.

The first one-week programme on Managing IT had been organised for IAS officers at KLMDC, IIMA in 1999. The objective of this programme was to enable the participants to identify high impact IT applications and implement these applications successfully in the government. The programme was coordinated by Prof. S C Bhatnagar.

Inaugural Workshop

Oct 1999

The Centre for e-Governance was inaugurated on the 22nd of October, 1999 by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat state, Keshubhai Patel. Senior officers from the Gujarat Government, senior IT professionals from the region and sponsors of the centre participated in the inaugural workshop. Key issues discussed were implementation of e-Governance, benefits expected from it, applications that had been demonstrated to have a high social impact, guidelines for successful implementation of ICT, and technologies useful for E-Governance
